Diwali Holidays – Ending with movies

We had four days of holidays for Diwali (an extra day thrown in on Monday). No I did not end up going to the theatres to watch Golmaal 3 or Action Replay since reviews were nothing to write home about. In any case after having watched 2 back to back movies (Anjaana Anjaani and Jootha hi Sahi) without reading reviews ensured I would never commit such a horrendous blunder again. Monday morning watched Turbulent Skies on HBO which was honestly no great shakes. It started off as a thriller but in the end it was a damp squib.
In the afternoon, I watched The Curious Case of Benjamin Button …. Thanks to Tata Sky I occasionally record movies and then watch them at leisure. That is another thing that I rarely end up watching them. This movie was different and only after having completed the movie did I check on the internet. So many Oscar nominations….. And I for one have always shied away from any movie remotely connected to the Oscars leave aside winners (Slumdog Millionaire was an exception but I admit it was surreal). This movie was a serious one but I enjoyed it. Reminded me of “You learn to love, not by finding a perfect person, but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.”
In the evening it was time for some good hearted comedy again recorded decades ago maybe in the form of Runaway Bride starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere (the same people who gave us Pretty Woman) Reminded me of My Best Friend’s wedding again with Julia Roberts…… A good movie this one was as also were the songs. Maneater by Hall & Oates, U2’s I still haven’t found what I’m looking for and When you sang to me by Marc Anthony…. Lovely songs. All in all a day full of movies and enjoyed 2 out of 3 which is not so bad after all.

  1. I still continue to remain a Hindi movie fan but the choice yesterday was pathetic. Tried watching a bit of I hate Luv Storys on Sundays and the movie should be renamed as I hate these Karan Johar movies. Two successive days of house arrest and today being the third so I am all set for Bruce Almighty and You've got mail today. Thank God I have recorded some Angrezi movies too….. else I am sick and tired of watching the colour and consistency of the Obamas you know what on TV!!!
