“Take on Me” by A-ha hits a billion views #takeonme1BN

This week, A-ha‘s smash hit “Take on Me” crossed a billion views!!! A 1985 hot favourite for me it was. Just into Engineering and I remember my friend’s sister, Daksha had been to the US for the summer and had recorded this from Z 100 a radio station based in New York state. We then had not watched the video but were just hooked on to the catchy tune.

The video, when we finally watched, was one amazing piece. Pencil art brought to life and during those times it was a novelty indeed. Partially black and white and partially in colour, it was an amazing visual delight. Girls swooned over the lead singer, Morten Harket’s looks.

The Norwegian group wasn’t exactly a one hit wonder but this song by far has been their most successful to date. Small wonder that it has touched a billion views. This is one of the few pre-90s music videos to join the billion-views club alongside “November Rain” by Guns N’ Roses and “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen.

Congratulations A-ha. You deserve it. I am glad I was there to witness this piece of history.

  1. One of my favorites from the 80s. Got to watch the video on VH1 channel and the art is top notch even by today’s standards.
