I have loved this blog http://www.happsters.com and enjoy their weekly posts. This weekend, the post has been all about spreading as much happiness as possible. So what is my target for the coming week? Kavya is heading for a holiday for the first time all by herself. While she is extra excited about going with her friends (and getting a break from pesky parents), Pauravi is very very edgy and is most worried as any other Mom. Her life revolves around Kavya so to let her out of sight for a week is a big big sacrifice, I can sense that. My mission for the forthcoming week is not to get into the usual argumentative mood that I usually am in and instead teach her basics of using the computer, email and Facebook and mobile phone including Whatsapp:-). And remain calm when teaching her! Strange as it may seem, she is eons away from technology even as I am glued to it. Now Kavya too is getting into it as part of her school curriculum and even without the school she uses the tablets and smart phones with aplomb. So it is only imperative to have Pauravi join the technological bandwagon. Hope to see a happier wifey next week:-)
The past few days have been an absolute torture. I haven’t been able to sleep like I would have liked to. Been waking up anytime between 0130 and 0200 and then keep up till 0500 or 0530. After that I would sleep and wake up around 0730 that too mainly as I have to drop Kavya to school. As a consequence, yoga was never attended and neither was swimming. This went on for 10 days. What did I do during those unearthly hours, I would check mails, reply to mails, chat, read news etc. Anything but productive. Finally decided to bell the cat and for the past two nights have been leaving the cell phone on the dining table in silent mode. And if I wake up, I don’t have any choice but to watch the darkness or such. Which I guess pushes me to sleep. This seems to be working well for now. Also I have taken to swimming once again so there is physical exertion too which makes me sleep better. Tomorrow I will attend yoga (much to the surprise of our teacher and my friends there:-)) And yes I will continue to leave the cell phone outside. Heavens are not falling and no one calls me in the middle of the night.
I have a particular e-mail account in Gmail which has been mine for years and even if I am not using it, it is there for posterity sake. There is some person, Scott in the US who thinks it belongs to him and has been using that e-mail for his children’s activities information, shopping etc. Recently he applied for a job too using this e-mail ID!!! I keep getting a lot of requests for joining Facebook too in Spanish. He has even sent password reset requests but naturally nothing worked.
I was once in a different mood and wrote a polite mail to the scout group that please inform the person that this ID does not belong to him and he should give the correct ID everywhere but to no avail. I continue to receive the same stuff which I am now filtering to trash. I wonder why Scott is not even thinking that he has not received a single job offer or such and he is from the IT field (from his job mails I can make that out). Some geek he is who thinks he has an e-mail ID of his own which in reality never was his!!! Has anyone come across such a situation? If so some tips please.
These days I spend a lot of time in managing my e mails. Honestly I am stumped. I handle more than 100 mails in a day and mind you the spam is already removed by Google since our mails are hosted there. Every morning my only target is to keep my inbox below 50 mails and yet I start off with somewhere in the 80s and the mails pile up as the day goes by. Personal mails go into a separate folder so there is no clogging of my inbox (I use thunderbird) but still I am at a loss not knowing how to manage this traffic. Have tried sitting alone and working on them but no respite. Also have delegated but still they continue to pile up. Is there some way of handling them? Business is dependent on fax and e mails so cannot ignore e mails eg. I will check only in the first 2 hours of the day etc. Any tips on over coming this would be more than welcome.
